NewsCAVES WIN TOP EXCELLENCE AWARD "OSCAR"20 Nov 2009Devon's oldest visitor attraction, Kents Cavern in Torquay, was awarded South Devon's top excellence ‘Oscar' for best tourism attraction at the South Devon Excellence Awards last night. The Torquay-based, family-run attraction, already holds numerous quality awards including Torbay's Best Attraction in 2005, the National Best Practice Forum's Business Excellence Award for attractions in 2006 and the regional tourism excellence award for Best Large Visitor Attraction in South West England in 2008. Nick Powe is the fifth generation of the family to own and operate the business where the main attraction is the interpretation of an extensive underground prehistoric cave system. The cave has an international reputation as the oldest recognisable human dwelling in the British Isles and a gateway to the UNESCO Global Geopark.
